Nobody really plans to make a full career out of fashion blogging. Usually we go into it because we’re passionate about it. Or because we have something to say. Or if you’re like me, you go into it because women like you never appeared anywhere in media. We were underrepresented. We were seen as too niche, too complicated, too covered or too difficult to represent. Which is odd because modest dressing spans many walks of life across many different religions and is even a preference to some women without any religious affiliation. It is a desire to cover what makes them comfortable. To take control of their bodies in the same way a lingerie model or a woman in a swimsuit chilling on a beach does: by putting on display only what THEY want to display. A modest dressing woman is really no different than her counterpart in shorts; the difference lies solely in how difficult it actually becomes to shop for clothing. Honestly, that’s what it breaks down to.
So when a retail giant like NET-A-PORTER approaches you to make that shopping experience not only easier, but more enjoyable for your fellow “demure” dressers, you don’t walk…you run to that chance.
Over the course of the next month both NET-A-PORTER and myself will be releasing 4 key trends for Spring/Summer, and breaking them down into videos, shopping edits and styled photos for day to night. We covered modest dressing for every walk of life: those in hijab, those without hijab, those that may have to wear something a bit more covered for specific events. Basically, we’ve got you covered if you want to keep covered.
But remember my creed always: go forth & be fierce. Cover what makes you comfortable.
